James Black brings to STC a strong background in acoustical and mechanical engineering. Growing up, James was first a musician enjoying piano, saxophone and playing guitar in local bands. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Montana State Univerisity, James decided it was time to hit the road. His destination was Copenhagen where he earned a Masters Degree in Acoustical Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark.

After graduating James began his professional career as an acoustical consultant, acquiring a broad-base of experience. He joined Sound Technology Consultants in February 2006 and specializes in acoustical design for speech application and music performance. Considered our resident expert in room acoustics, sound isolation and noise and vibration control, James is also a talented sound system and video systems designer. James lends patience and purpose to every design, yet possibly his greatest contribution to the team, is that he is still a musician at heart. With an understanding for the needs of both performers and technicians, James sees the interdependence of each and translates that into a system that works.
